I Heart Indie Bookstores: Little Joe's Books and Coffee

25 Katonah Avenue, Katonah, NY joescb.com

Nestled in the picturesque town of Katonah in Northern Westchester, Little Joe's always makes me think of  a suburban version of The Shop Around the Corner run by Kathleen Kelly and featured in the film You've Got Mail.  A dreamlike childrens bookstore where every employee loves books as much as I do and the charming turn of the century building can only be described as quaint

Downstairs there is coffee, ice cream and baked goods, as well as a small, but welll curated selection of adult titles, both fiction and non fiction, as well self help books of the suburban parent genre and glossy cook books good enough to eat.  Lining the wall headed up the stairs is a cheerful array of stationery, toys, gifts and curiosities.  They even have cards, making it easy to get the perfect birthday gift without leaving the building.  On the upper floor is the children's book room.  Ranging from the picture book set straight through the hottest YA titles, Little Joe's packs a meticulous selection of titles for every kid of every age.  In the far corner is a reading nook replete with pillows and plush rug.

Owners Pete and Gretchen Menzies also run the Reading Room,  restaurant cum food centric bookshop around the corner.
